Effective 10/25/23

We are no longer offering massage and reflexology services through Akasha's Journey.  However, we are leaving this page up for a while so that our clients can contact our therapists directly for appointments.

Ana Reyes, LMT owns and operates A.R Massage and sees clients in her Pine Plains office.

Dominique Lopez, LMT (Dom) is local to Wingdale, NY, and sees clients via house call.

Gina Burton-Fisher, LMT is local to Wappingers Falls, NY, and sees clients via house call

Swedish Massage

A relaxing, light to medium pressure, full body massage designed to improve circulation, reduce tension, and relieve stress, leaving you feeling healed.  (Ana, Dom, or Gina)

Deep Tissue Massage

A therapeutic massage designed to address chronic muscle tension, relieve sore muscles, and improve joint mobility, by accessing multiple layers of muscle and fascia, where pain and tightness manifest, leaving you feeling rooted.  (Ana, Dom, or Gina)

Hot Stone Massage

The hot stone massage is a form of alternative medicine massage therapy and bodywork involving the placement of a number of  heated  stones to the body for the purpose of pain relief, relaxation and therapy.

Stone massages are primarily used to alleviate physical pain issues, however, are also used to promote emotional and spiritual wellbeing in practice.

During a hot stone massage, the techniques of a regular massage are applied. However, the stones are also placed on specific parts of the body to loosen tight muscles and tendons.  The stones are smooth and usually made of basalt volcanic chosen because they retain heat.

They are then placed onto specific areas of the body, such as:

  • the back
  • the stomach
  • the face
  • the hands
  • the feet
  •  Holding the stones to massage more deeply into the muscles without more pressure, helping you  to further relax.  (Dom or Gina)

Lomi Lomi Massage

Lomi lomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage that uses a combination of massage techniques, nut oils, and sometimes elements of prayer, breathing and dance to restore energy and soothe the body. It is also known as the 'loving hands' massage. This name helps to explain its principles - the massage works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, allowing the recipient to relax and give in to the nurturing touch.

Lomi lomi works from the belief that memories are not just stored in the brain and mind, but also in every cell of the human body. The long, continuous strokes of the massage are designed to help the body let go of its old patterns and behaviours, which can cause as many stresses and strains as muscle tension.

Lomi lomi aims to treat the body and mind as one whole being. It is thought to:

  • release tension
  • assist blood and lymph flow
  • eliminate waste and stimulate toxins
  • rejuvenate the body
  • instill a sense of peace, harmony and wellbeing.

In Hawaii, lomi lomi is used to treat children with upset stomachs and soothe women in labor. A lomi lomi therapist will facilitate your healing.  (Gina)

Focused Massage

A massage that focuses specifically on the tension of the back, neck, shoulders. This treatment provides relaxation and decreases chronic muscle tension at the same time, leaving feeling strong.   We also offer a Deep Tissue* version of this Focused Massage.  (Ana, Dom, or Gina)

Prenatal Massage

A massage designed for the expecting mamas, past 14 weeks of gestation. This treatment is custom made for each mother and is performed in a side-lying position, to keep both mama + baby comfortable. It targets areas of discomfort and swelling, finding relief and relaxation.  (Ana, Dom, Gina)

Teen Massage

Specialized for ages 16 and younger with parental supervision. (Ana or Dom)

Mini Treatments

These 30 minute treatments are perfect for those who are on the go! They are very relaxing and effective.  (Ana)

Foot & Hand reflexology massage $45-30 minutes
Face, Neck & Scalp massage $55- 30 minutes

Chair Massage

A massage treatment focusing on the areas of your back, shoulders, neck, arms, and hands with the most tension. It is given while you sit in a special massage chair, fully-clothed, without the use of massage oil, and can be effective in as few as 15-20 minutes. Chair massage is designed to relax the muscles and improve flexibility and movement.  (Ana, Dom, or Gina)

Reflexology

A foot massage where specific “zones” of the feet are stimulated to promote healing and restore balance in other areas of the body.  (Ana or Gina)

Cupping

Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction may facilitate healing with blood flow.  Some also claim the suction helps facilitate the flow of “qi” in the body.  Many Taoists believe that cupping helps balance yin and yang, within the body. Restoring balance between these two extremes is thought to help with the body’s resistance to pathogens as well as its ability to increase blood flow and reduce pain.

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

(Cupping can be booked as a standalone treatment or added onto treatments with Dom or Gina)

New offerings as of Spring 2023

Medical Massage

Medical Massage treats conditions that have been diagnosed by a doctor.  It is a complete soft tissue movement technique composed of fascia, muscle mobilization, trigger point therapy (where there are trigger points), skin movement and other elements.  Each session is customized based on individual cient needs.

Medical Massage differs from Therapeutic massage in that the LMT must also be certified in Medical Massage Techniques.  Medical Massage can offer corrective action for specific conditions that have already been diagnosed by a doctor.  It also accompanies Physical Therapy very well.  (Dom)

Some examples of conditions where medical massage is indicated or recommended may include:

  • Pain reduction and stress, especially due to illness or injury
  • Treatment of neuropathy
  • Complements rehabilitation programs and protocols

Myofacial Release

Myofacial Release is a whole-body technique which will address the connective tissue restrictions within your body.  Gentle, yet firm sustained pressure is applied directly on the skin, without lotion.  Pressure is maintained for a minimum of 2 minutes, which allows the affected area to unwind, lengthen, and reset.  In most musculoskeletal conditions, using Myofacial Release can be one of the most effective techniques for long term reduction of pain. (Dom)

Conditions Treated, but not limited to:

  • Back/Neck Pain
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Lower Extremity Pain
  • Hip/Knee Pain
  • Chronic Muscular Pain
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Adhesive Scar Tissue
  • Sciatica
  • Arthritis

Sports Massage

Sports massage is designed to help athletes before, during and after training. It is useful for anyone who exercises to increase flexibility, prevent injuries and help with healing after a sports injury. Sports massage is specifically tailored to different sports and sporting injuries.  It is used to help  prepare the body for athletic activity and maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries. Sports massage has three basic forms: pre-event massage, post-event massage, and maintenance massage.   (Dom)

Dominique Lopez (Dom) is a Licensed Massage Therapist who has worked closely with Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists in a rehabilitation environment since 1992.  He chose this field because he knew from an early age that he wanted to not only help people feel better, but also to GET better.  His training has helped with the ability to assess a client's pain pattern and offer therapeutic techniques which will have more of a corrective action than traditional massage therapy.

By using myofacial release combined with therapeutic massage, each session is individually tailored to correct muscular imbalances which alter one's normal movement patterns and cause movement compensations over time.  The area of pain is often not the source of the problem, which makes each session a whole-person experience.

Dominique is the founder of Phoenix Therapy.  Prior to beginning Phoenix Therapy, Dominique co-founded Ultimate Physical Therapy in White Plains, NY, and worked in all aspects of operations.  After graduating from SUNY Buffalo, he was trained professionally at the Swedish Institute, College of Health Studies and received his certificate from Cornell University in Nutrition and Healthy Living.  In the Fall of 2004, Dominique began working with SUNY Purchase College providing therapeutic massage to the conservatory of dance.  He currently has expanded his role on campus to the entire student body, but still works extremely close with the dance program.
